Bowleys Quarters, Maryland

Modern Coastal Sophistication, Custom Home

Commissioned by the CEO of a fellow architecture firm, this Bowleys Quarters residence represents a unique “architect’s architect” collaboration. It was both a professional honor and a creative thrill for Jonathan Rivera Architecture to be entrusted with bringing a peer’s personal vision to life. The resulting home is a bespoke sanctuary designed to balance high-level professional hosting with the intimate comforts of family life.

The design narrative of this project, situated in the scenic Goose Neck area, focuses on a graduated sense of arrival. While many modern builds move immediately to open-concept layouts, this home utilizes a more intentional, “expanding” floor plan. The front of the residence features smaller, curated rooms that establish a cozy, welcoming ambiance. As one moves toward the rear of the home, the architecture opens up into expansive, light-filled spaces designed to maximize the ground floor for both family gatherings and large-scale office events.

At the center of the daily experience is the kitchen and living area—the true heart of the home. This space flows seamlessly into a magnificent screened-in porch, positioned specifically to capture tranquil, unobstructed views of the water. Whether hosting a summer sunset gathering or enjoying a quiet morning, this indoor-outdoor integration defines the home’s coastal character.

The residence is defined by its highly customized functional details, including a residential elevator that ensures accessibility and long-term livability across all levels. From its rhythmic interior flow to its command of the Maryland shoreline, this project stands as a one-of-a-kind testament to collaborative design and meticulous craftsmanship.
